3D virtual tour example: a 45 m² flat, produced four times
The same Paris flat, 29 viewpoints, produced four times from four different sources. It is the property where the gap shows best: with 360° panoramas alone, only 17 of the 29 viewpoints find their place.

The property
A Paris flat of roughly 45 m², bright, under the roof, looking out over the neighbouring buildings. 29 viewpoints, which is a comfortable density for this volume: about one every two metres.
It is an ordinary flat, and that is exactly why it is interesting: nothing here was staged to flatter the process.
What each format gives, here
Hybrid — the link and the backup together
All 29 viewpoints placed, the geometry of the Visites-virtuelles survey and the original colour rendering. It is the reference of this page: everything the other three show is judged against it. Look at the dollhouse view — the partitions are crisp and the corners are square.
Visites-virtuelles backup — the geometry without the original rendering
Same 29 viewpoints, same measured geometry. The difference is in colour: the images are rebuilt from the raw survey captures rather than taken from the original player.
The two thumbnails above show the same view, and the gap is visible without looking for it: on this heavily backlit window, the rebuilt version is milkier and less contrasted. That is the known limit of the process — rebuilding can correct a colour cast, it cannot lift a veil. On less extreme scenes the gap narrows considerably.
That is exactly why hybrid mode exists: it takes the geometry from the backup and the colours from the player.
Visites-virtuelles link — original colours, estimated depth
All 29 viewpoints are placed, since their positions come from the original survey. What is missing are the distance measurements: depth is estimated by AI. While walking you barely notice; in the overview, distant volumes are approximate — the reveals and the view through the window come out softer.
360° only — the case that struggles
17 viewpoints out of 29. That is the figure to take away from this page, and it is not down to bad photos: it is this property that defeats photogrammetry.
With no position data, each shot has to be tied to the others by recognising the same details from one image to the next. But this flat is small, bright, with large plain wall surfaces and few distinctive objects: two different places look too alike to be told apart, and twelve viewpoints do not find their place.
Adding resolution changes nothing — the missing information is not in the pixels. What would have helped: tighter spacing, more furniture in frame, doors left open. The method is detailed in how to create a 360° virtual tour.
| Format | Viewpoints placed | Geometry | Colours | Price |

| Hybrid | 29 / 29 | Visites-virtuelles survey | Original rendering | €31.63 |

What this example proves
On a small, bright, repetitive home, a 360-only capture is not the right choice. As soon as position data exists — a plain share link is enough — all 29 viewpoints are placed. If all you have are 360 photos of a property like this, densify the capture before giving up.
Frequently asked questions
Why only 17 viewpoints out of 29 with 360° photos alone?
Because this flat is small, bright and repetitive: the plain walls do not offer enough distinctive detail to tie each shot to its neighbours. It is a limit of the method on this kind of property, not a fault in the photos — and adding resolution does not change it.
Is the difference between hybrid and backup really visible?
On this property, barely: the geometry is identical, only the colour treatment differs. Hybrid reuses the original player's rendering, the backup rebuilds the images from the raw captures. Open both on the same room and judge — that is exactly why the four tours exist.
Are these the same tours customers receive?
Yes: same engine, same files, same production chain. The only difference is that a delivered tour arrives as a ZIP archive with its launchers, to host wherever you want.
