3D virtual tour example: an event barge, 130 viewpoints

A long, narrow volume over two decks: the hard case. All 130 viewpoints are placed as soon as survey data exists. With 360° panoramas alone, 101 out of 129 — and the reason for the missing 28 is instructive.

The property

A barge fitted out as an event venue: a long, narrow, low volume spread over two decks joined by steep stairs. 130 viewpoints — the densest of the three demos, and by far the hardest to reconstruct.

Nothing about this property resembles a home: repeating corridors, partitions built the same way end to end, constrained circulation, no room wide enough to step back in. That is exactly why it is here.

What each format gives, here

Hybrid and backup — 130 out of 130, both decks

Every viewpoint placed, the two decks distinct, survey scale. On a volume this long, that is where measured geometry proves its worth: estimated depth drifts over thirty metres, a point cloud does not.

Visites-virtuelles link — 129 out of 129, estimated depth

Positions come from Visites-virtuelles, so every viewpoint is placed. But this is where the limit of estimated depth shows best: down the long sightlines, far surfaces are approximate and the dollhouse view is noticeably softer than in the two previous formats. On a flat, that gap goes almost unnoticed; over thirty metres of length, it jumps out.

360° only — 101 out of 129, and the explanation is worth it

28 viewpoints could never be attached, and it is not a question of shooting technique.

Those 28 panoramas come from a second shoot, made a year after the first. In between, the fit-out had changed. Photogrammetry ties images together by recognising the same details: between two sessions a year apart, not enough shared decor was left to bridge them. We tested the hypothesis by trying to match the two groups — none of the pairings held.

In other words: it is not the barge that is difficult, it is mixing two campaigns. A 360 capture must be done in one go, on the same day, with the same camera — the rule is detailed in how to create a 360° virtual tour.

What this example proves

Two things. A large volume does not frighten the process — 130 viewpoints over two decks, all placed as soon as survey data exists. But down a long sightline, estimated depth shows its limits where it went unnoticed on a flat: if measurements matter, you need a backup. And a 360 capture is done in one go, never in two campaigns.

Frequently asked questions

Can two shooting campaigns be mixed?

No, and this example puts a number on it: 28 panoramas from a session made a year after the first could never be attached to the rest, for lack of enough shared decor. A 360 capture must be done in one go, on the same day, with the same camera and at the same height.

Is there a maximum property size?

Billing stays automatic up to 400 panoramas; beyond that the price is quoted individually. Technically, this barge with 130 viewpoints over two decks is handled with no particular difficulty as long as a Visites-virtuelles backup or link supplies the positions.

Why is the overview less crisp in link mode?

Because depth there is estimated by AI rather than measured, and the error accumulates with distance. On a flat the gap is nearly invisible; on a thirty-metre volume it becomes obvious. A Visites-virtuelles backup, which carries the measured point clouds, removes the problem.
